For organizers
Cancelling an event
Cancelling is final and cannot be undone. Consider editing the date or venue instead — buyers keep their tickets when you edit.
How to cancel
Open the event under Manage › Events (web) or Organizer › Events (app) and choose Cancel event. The confirmation shows how many paid tickets, free registrations and attendees are affected before you confirm.
What Abonten does when you confirm
- Marks the event cancelled; it disappears from discovery and sales stop.
- Cancels every ticket and registration; attendees see Cancelled by organizer.
- Requests a refund of the ticket price for every paid ticket from Paystack. Buyers get their ticket price back to the payment method they used; Abonten's service fee is not refunded to them.
- Notifies every attendee in the app, and paid attendees by email. The notice says a refund is processing — it is confirmed by Paystack later.
- Reverses the pending earnings for those tickets on your ledger.
If a refund request fails (for example the payment provider was unavailable), the buyer sees a Retry refund option, and Abonten's finance team can re-request it.
Your money
Earnings from a cancelled event are reversed. If part of an earlier payout already included them, your available balance can go negative and is netted against future earnings.
Promotions
A paid promotion on a cancelled event is not refunded.
Postponing instead
Abonten has no "postponed" state. Edit the event's dates and message attendees; they keep their tickets. If some attendees cannot make the new date, they can cancel their own ticket and receive the ticket price back.
Communicating
Use Message from the event to reach attendees who have contacted you, and post the reason in the event description before cancelling so people who look the event up understand what happened.
