For customers
Refunds and cancellations
Cancelling a ticket you bought
Open the ticket in My Tickets (web) or the Tickets tab (app) and choose Cancel ticket while it is still Active. Cancelling releases the ticket so someone else can buy it.
What you get back
- The ticket price for the cancelled ticket is refunded to the payment method you paid with.
- The service fee is not refunded.
- Free tickets have nothing to refund; they simply move to Cancelled.
- If you bought several tickets in one payment, each one you cancel refunds its own ticket price. Paystack refunds are requested per cancelled ticket's share of the charge.
How long it takes
Cancelling requests the refund from Paystack immediately. Your transaction shows Refund pending until Paystack confirms it, then Refunded. After that, the time it takes to appear on your card or mobile-money balance depends on your bank or network — typically a few days for cards.
If the request fails (for example Paystack was unreachable), your ticket shows Refund failed with a Retry refund button. Support can also re-request it.
When the organizer cancels an event
If an organizer cancels, Abonten automatically:
- cancels every ticket and registration for the event (yours will read Cancelled by organizer);
- requests a refund of the ticket price for every paid ticket, on the same terms as above (the service fee is not refunded);
- notifies you in the app and, for paid tickets, by email.
You do not need to do anything. If a refund shows Refund failed, use Retry refund or contact support.
Bookings at places
A booking request can be cancelled from your profile's Bookings tab (web) or Account › Bookings (app) at any time before it takes place. Bookings are free; there is nothing to refund.
Refunds we cannot give
Abonten cannot refund a ticket because you missed the event, arrived late, disliked it, or the event differed from what you expected — those matters are between you and the organizer, whom you can message from the event page. You can also report the event if you believe it was fraudulent or misleading.
Disputes with your bank
Please contact us before raising a dispute (chargeback) with your bank — most problems are quicker to fix through support. While a dispute is open, the organizer's payout for that event is held and your account may be paused.
